Some people believe that to reduce
the amount of time people spend commuting (travelling to work), parks and
gardens close to city centres should be replaced by apartment buildings for
commuters to live in. However, others disagree with this.

Introduction:
The
problems faced by workers who travel from the outskirts to their
offices in the city centres have
prompted many people to think about turning parks and gardens into residential
areas. I believe it is not a proper solution to the problem as there are better
ways to tackle this issue.
View 1: Body para 1
It
is an undeniable fact that most workers do not have the financial resources to
live close to their workplaces in a city where the real estate prices are
unaffordable. The stress of the daily commuting makes many people think that
parks and gardens are less important than the comfort of the workers. They feel
that if apartments are built where there are parks, it would alleviate their
sufferings.

However,
Parks and gardens are the green lungs of a crowded city where there is so much pollution. Parks and gardens are
the only open spaces available to the city dwellers. Hence, it is better to
meet the basic requirements of the people in the city and protect the quality
of the environment there rather than finding shortcuts to save time.

)
A
better solution is to make changes in urban planning and create vertical
cities. In a vertical city, optimum utilization of every inch of precious real
estate is possible. The city will grow upwards instead of expanding
horizontally. Multistoreyed buildings in a smaller area can accommodate more
offices and public amenities such as hospitals, multiplexes, trade
centres, shopping malls and convention
centres. This will mean more vacant space within the city which can be used to
construct more residential units without replacing public parks. Consequently,
People can find accommodation at a reasonable rate and stay close to their work
places and save time.
Conclusion
To sum up, urban planners can find solutions to the
problems of the workers by creating vertical cities without replacing public
parks and gardens.
