Canadian College Asks 428 Indian Students to Take IELTS Test Again; Quality Doubted

Ontario: More than 400 students in India have been asked by Niagra College in Ontario, Canada, to retake the language test as the  college has found some inconsistencies. The doubt arose when the language proficiency of the candidates did not match the IELTS test scores submitted by them. The  College has asked 428  Indian students admitted to its January 2019 programmes to undergo a second English test. Students who do not comply with this condition will lose  their offer of admission. Students are given two test options – IELTS or PTE. IELTS is one of the English language tests used by the immigration auhtorities in Canada as  proof of an immigration or citizenship applicant’s language proficiency. The College took  this crucial decision after its faculty found some inconsistencies with the IELTS  scores of the first-year international students and their real language skills.

When Lone Tusker Questions Frighten IELTS Test Takers

Speaking Part 1 Questions can sometimes frighten you. Do you work or study? Where do you work?  Easy questions. Then comes the third  question. Is it necessary to make friends at your workplace? This is the typical lone tusker question. It is neither a Part 1 Interview question nor a Part 3 discussion question. It scares most test takers because they do not expect it. Test takers who struggle to get a score above 6 may find this question uncomfortable. (This question appeared on the test on August 1) If you are proficient in the English language, you can give a smart answer and score 8 or 9. But if your aim is to get a 7, your answer can be simple. Yes, friends at the workplace can be helpful. Do not elaborate until your examiner asks you a follow-up question( a related question). This answer is short but it is the ideal answer for you. Your job is not to give a smart answer but to deliver a sentence without errors.

What Makes a News Photographer Different From Other Photographers?

What makes a news Photographer different from other photographers? IELTS speaking Part 3 question: 2018 July 22 A Photojournalist is different from other photographers.  The main difference is that the news photographer works for the media and for this reason he has to observe media rules. His visuals must be impartial and honest, and the photo should tell a news story. His job is difficult. He has to work in adverse situations.  Sometimes, he has to face a violent mob,  or  poor weather while clicking a photo. The job of a war photographer is even more dangerous.  Above all, a  photojournalist should have an eye for  rare 'photographic opportunities' .

Are Advertisements Essential?

Also, there are public interest advertisements issued by the government or NGOs... to create awareness on many public issues... like epidemics, lifestyle diseases, new laws and social problems. Above all, businessmen cannot survive without advertisements Note: You do not have to give such a lengthy answer.

Why Are IELTS Test Takers Worried?

IELTS has turned out to be  a nightmare for many test takers since April 2018. Please note that  my comment is based on the experiences of IELTS  candidates from India Earlier, getting a 7 in writing was an uphill task for most people. Scoring a 7 band was another problem for many test takers. The latest development is that Reading left many candidates confused in May and June, 2018. Many of the test takers feel that IELTS is   tougher than other tests. My students ask me whether it is true. Answers: 1. There is no change in the  pattern and level of  difficulty of Writing Task 1 (Academic & General). 2. Task 2 questions of the Academic test  change ( approximately) every 10 days.     Earlier,  four or five  questions were repeated for one month.     Now, Task 2 questions which  appeared on the test 2 or 3 years reappear more frequently.     Do not expect this week's questi...
